Image Tag

Michell Cannon has the best quizzes and tags. http://mcannonfam.blogspot.com/ She did this one not too long ago and I thought I would give it a whirl. The idea is to answer the questions by typing your answer into Google Images and picking the one from the first page or so and pasting it in. It's so fun. Who knew that Michelle once liked Devon Sawa? Totally takes me back. Here goes!
1- My first name: Marianne. Marianne is also the title given to French liberty or values. This is Delacroix's Lady Liberty Leading the Republic. I liked it better than the porn that came up with my name search. So much for filters! Oh, I guess she is a little naked. Art naked isn't naked.

2-My Middle Name: Marguerite. This is a Marguerite daisy. I didn't know there was one.

3- My Last Name: Firth. Here is cousin Colin at his actual wedding to Livia Giuggioli. I thought that was cute. Ya, the first seven pages of Firth are pretty much devoted to him. Clayton is much sexier.

4-My age: 32. This is a famous photograph, I don't know the photographer, but it had a subtitle saying the woman was 32 years old. Made me feel pretty awesome. And pretty sorry for her. I imagine I too would look that haggard if I had 11 kids during the dust bowl.
5- Favorite Vacation Spot: This one is tough. So I choose two. First Paris.
And second, Disney Cruise.

6- A Past Love: Much much harder! At age eight or so? John Taylor of Duran Duran? Ricky Schroeder? Kirk Cameron? At age 12? That would be Jordan Knight of New Kids. In the end I went with my 14 year old obsession with Depeche Mode. Particularly Dave Gahan and Martin Gore. Major daydreams. Listened to 101 daily and imagined being Dave's girlfriend. Ahhh. By the way, all of the noted above have aged very well.
7- College Major: Fashion Design and Production.
8- If I was going to do it all over? Probably the same. I loved my major. But if I had to finish it now I would go all Humanities or Art History.
9- Where did I grow up? Manson Washington!
10- Where do I live now? Provo Utah! A million beautiful shots turned up, but I liked this one best.
11- A Past Pet: Sadly we were pretty tame on the pet front. My favorite though was my cat named Patches.

12- A friend's nickname: Well, nothing came up for Juliettabeth. So I went with what I often call Clayton. Claytone. And oddly enough this came up. I don't question such gifts.

13-My First Job: Aside from babysitting? I worked at Rocky Mountain Drive Inn. Ugh.
14- Favorite Food? Today? Possibly Chicken Marsala. Or Sweet and Sour Meatballs on Rice. Or my dad's Turkey Dinner. Or Sam's Club Cake.

Ya, I couldn't choose. Note: we never do Brussels sprouts and the cake should be chocolate.
15- My Favorite Color: Pink. Most of the time. Blue is a close second. An entirely pink painting of Freud holding a hot dog? Heck yeah!
16- What am I doing right now? Well this obviously, but I will go with how I am feeling right now. Nauseated. I am home sick from work today, thus the long and frivolous blog. I guess this poor bride looks that way too. Maybe her mom just had "the talk" with her.
17- A Bad Habit of mine: Popping my knuckles. Not because it is bad for you, it isn't. There are miles of research (Kirsten, I said research.) papers and studies on it. See here. Or ask any doctor. It's only bad because it annoys the heck out of people. For that I am sorry. Sorta.
Ok. I now tag Kirsten, Shauna, Sarah, Camille, Shelly, Elisa, Adam, Lisa, Darren, Allison, Alison, Monica, Tiffany,Leigh, Melissa, KaRyn, Jenni and whoever else. P.S. Once you find your image, look at it full size, right click to copy image location and then insert that in the photo uploads under add an image from the web.

Hawaii July 2008

So yes, we went to Hawaii again last month. What could we do? Our tans from the last trip were fading. Just kidding. Tom and Jenni got a killer deal on a condo in Maui and we had the hookup on flying so we really couldn't not go. We know, we know. We really don't deserve friends. That said, here are a ton of pictures. Starting with Clayton walking along the Westin property. They had three killer pools and the most amazing snorkeling right on the doorstep of the property. We saw eels, turtles and a billion of odd looking fish.

Here is our niece Allie with my brother Tom in the kid pool that has this huge pirate ship in the middle. Pools are way more fun with kids.

Allie learned a new trick.

On Sunday we drove up from the Ka'anapali area to the Ritz. On it's ocean side area are these really cool lava formations called the dragon's teeth. Clayton and I had been there on our first trip to Maui and wanted to show them to Tom and Jenni's family.

Walking back up the Ritz golf course, also a sacred burial ground. Originally the hotel was going to be built closer to the ocean but they found this spot and had to move it back. However golfing on burial grounds is ok. Whatever works for them.

On the beach back at our hotel Clayton made a masterpiece in the sand. Take that Borglum.

Allie (or Allen as the Siverts have named her when she wears her super suit. It's floaty.) loved to play in the sand. Tom and Jenni stopped by a yard sale on the first day there and bought a bunch of buckets, pails, shovels, towel mats, and a boogie board for just a few dollars total. We think the yard-saler was a hotel maid. I'm glad she's recycling that way.

Tommy got buried. Someone has to so I'm glad it's the teenager. However should the grown up men be having this much fun doing it?

Allie, Allie, Allie. I know. But she was our little shining star whether she wanted to be or not. I love her swimsuits.

Clayton and wife. I packed like two shirts. Ever do that? Think you are being so smart by packing light until you see in your pictures that you only have proof of one shirt. Oh well.

Megan and I got Henna tattoos on our feet. Megan also got a cute butterfly on her wrist.

Here we are with our designs. When we got back to the room Allie noticed first thing and started asking where her flower was. So we drew on her ankle too. Start 'em young right? Megan's foot is on your left and mine is on the right.

One day we drove up to Hale'akala crater. It was really cool. The entire vegetation changes and you are suddenly in this moon-like area. Here is the gang at the visitor's center.

Inside we found Tom a button that expresses his true heart's devotion. Saving wildlife. Ok, sarcasm aside, he really is a decent human being, but the joke is that he had to stop super hard on the way up so as not to hit two Nene birds that were crossing the street. In the visitor's center they have these Nene crossing buttons for sale. Tom is modeling it here.

At the tippy top of the area there is a ledge that overlooks the top side of the island with the vast ocean and sky beyond. Megan got the idea to jump so it looks like she is just in the air. We copied her and all took turns trying to jump. The shots of Tom and Jenni's family are fantastic. The shots of Megan are gorgeous. The shots of us are... awkward. My dancing days are far behind me sadly. Enjoy none the less.

I told you I brought one shirt. Here are Clayton and Tommy giving Allie a lift.

The graceful gazelle Megan.

On the other side of the mountain.

Clayton and I took a long walk one day and revisited the Eldorado Hotel where we stayed our first time. Here he is on the grounds.

And here I am in my other shirt in front of the beach of the Eldorado. Our Westin hotel is actually just up the beach a few yards.

Lovely Megan with the boogie board, heading to the beach.

This was our surfing day. Tom rented a board and some stuff to try. He and Megan did really well. Here we are watching him. Tommy Megan and Allie.

Clayton and I and our friend. For some reason whenever we posed for a picture, if Allie was near, she ran over and got in the shot. I have no objections with that. All in all we had a fantastic time. This should be our last big trip for a long time. I know I keep saying that, but we really mean it this time.

Three posts in one day???

This is very Lisa Higginson of me. She is the super one-day blogger. I still have one giant old post to catch up on from our trip, but I just had to complete my thoughts on the Twilight books. I loved them all. I read them all so fast that I had this enormous empty feeling when I was done. (Harry Potter anyone?) I love a good fast read, and I love series. So I am asking you, all nine or so of you, for some great book recommendations. Favorite books, fast reads, hard books, funny books, children's books... I don't care. Just preferably something you have read yourself so I am getting a first person account. I love just about every type of book, so feel free to name the obscure or off the wall. I will have to soon post a list of some of my favorites. It will take a while though. In the meantime I am asking for your help. Thanks in advance.

Death Cab For Cutie!

So this post is more than little past due. May 26th. A fun group of friends and family all joined up at the Death Cab concert. It was such a blast. It's bizarre to think of how cold we were that night, but it was still a great show. It was my first time seeing them, but Clayton's fourth or something.
Here is Mark Turpin, Clayton, my brother Adam and Mark's wife Sarah. More people were there but I forgot their names. Mark introduced Clayton to Death Cab like six years ago. He and Sarah are always into great music. For proof go to their blog and listen to their playlist.
http://turpintribe.blogspot.com/

Also in our group were my niece Megan and her cousin Kaylie.

At the concert I ran into some old friends that I haven't seen in about eight years or so. Dan and Leigh, now we are blog friends! They also have killer taste in music. You can enjoy their playlist here:

I was happy with my pictures. Normally concert shots are worthless, but I even got a few where you can recognize the band members.
Ben! (And Jason and Chris)
Tegan and Sarah opened but due to some bad weather and technical difficulties Rogue Wave was cut. Luckily DCFC more than made up for it.

Kaylie and Megan

Mark and Sarah. I think this was one of their first nights away from their sweet little Boyce.
Me and Clayton.
